Unforgettable Negative or Villainous Characters in Bollywood , Part - 3

10. Shakaal: Kulbhushan Kharvanda in “Shaan”

Debut role of Kulbhushan Kharvanda with bald look may be the only role he ever will be remembered as. Shakaal a villain with bald look, outrageous costumes, who has control over a island, he has a room which is controlled by switches, has automatic doors and Shakal also has his own shark. Does it get any bigger?

9. Shetty: Sadashiv Amarapurkar in “Ardha Satya”

Sheety played by Sadashiv Amarapurkar may be not as famous character as the others in this list but one of the best negative characters and equally good performance in Bollywood. If you still not experienced it, go and watch it as soon as possible. I am sure you will enjoy it.

8. Indrajeet Chaddha: Amrish Puri in “Damini”

Indrajeet Chaddha is a character of Criminal Lawyer. A man with scheming mind who can go to any extent to win in the rape case. He almost rape the victim in the court with his words. Amrish Puri gave a flawless performance. What made this character memorable is his regular jerk to his head just to move his long hairs off his eyes.

7. Dr Dang: Played by Anupam Kher in Karma

Anupam Kher did evil act in many movies but “Dr. Dang” was his most successful negative character. This role is one of his top most performances out of 100’s or may be 1000’s of movie he did. Dr. Dang made everyone listen to the “Thappar ki Goonj.”

6. Prem: Played by Prem Chopra in “Bobby”

‘Prem naam hain mera. Prem Chopra’ and their goes whistles and claps by public. The one guest appearance everyone was eager to watch. The small guest appearance in fim “Bobby” talks about Prem Chopra’s whole illustrative career. The Villain with good looks who can make Heroines loves him and he can ditch them afterwards. Perhaps he was the only villain in Bollywood who could manage that. He gave many memorable evil performances many more movies.

5. Pran

in hoards of movies like Ram Aur Shyam, Madhumati, Kashmir ki Kali, Brahmchari, and many more. He was the face of Villain in many movies in 1950’s. He was the guy people love to hate for many years. And he is also one of the top ten best actors in Indian cinema.

4. Anna: Played by Nana Patekar in “Parinda”

A ganglord named Anna played by Nana Patekar is most memorable character played by Nana Patekar or for that matter by any actor. Nana Patekar colored the cold blooded, cruel character of Anna beautifully. Who fears the fire to the death, he gets hyper and crazy just looking at the fire. His crazy way of hitting his head with his own hand and screaming was quite a visual and which was never seen on screen before. No one could have done that better than him.

3. Loin: Played by Ajit in “Kalicharan”

“Sara shehar mujhe Loyan (Lion) ke naam se janata hai.” Today if anybody wants to visualize a villain who is also a smuggler, first things comes to his mind is Lion by Ajit. And he comes up with a total package which consist his sexy assistant ‘Mona Darling’ and also people like Michel, Robert, Peter, Lilly etc. It is in real sense a legendary character. His legendary threat goes like ‘is ko liquid oxygen me duba do. Liquid ise jine nahin dega aur oxygen ise marne nahin dega’.

2. Mogambo: Played by Amrish Puri in “Mr. India”

Can anybody possibly forget “Mogambo Khush Hua.” Another legendary character in Bollywood, which has life of its own and the closest contender for number one spot in Bollywood’s Villains. Although movie “Mr. India” can be categorized as movie made for children’s. And Mogambo can be called as comic book villain. But the performance of Amrish Puri and his costumes can outgrow anybodies imagination. He is most stylized villain of all time. So I just want to say “Hail Mogambo.”

1. Gabbar Singh: Played by Amjad Khan in “Sholay”

Pachas pachas kos door gaon mein jab koi bachcha raat ko rota hai to uski maa kahti hai beta soja ..soja nahin to Gabbar aa jaayega’ and the manic laughter after that is one of the greatest moment in Indian Cinema. And I am sure nothing can beat that. This was Amjad Khan’s debut role and what a grand entry in movies it was? He played the biggest and legendary negative character in the Hindi Cinema. Gabbar Singh is by far Bollywood’s best villain. Amjad Khan will be remembered as Gabbar Singh till the end of this world. All the dialogues of Gabbar are unforgettable like ‘Aare Oh samba Kithne aadmi thei?’ ‘Ye hath humko de de Thakur’ ‘Ab Tera kya hoga Kaliya?’. I actually can list all of them. A grand salute to Amjad Khan for his performance and Salim – Javed for creating such amazing character.

Lotiya Pathan a villain with strange name. Kiran Kumar played the character as it should be.

19. Nana Patekar in “Angaar”

Nana Patekar gave very competitive performance in Angaar as usual.

16. Amrish Puri in Hum Paanch, Saudagar, Meri Jung, Dayawan, Koyala, Gadar and many others…

Actually each of the characters in all these movies can be listed separately here. Amrish Puri played villain in many movies but each character was distinctively different than each other. In each role he always comes up with different look. In Hum Paanch he was a land lord, in Saudagar he was big teethed bad guy, in Meri Jung he was lawyer, in Koyala he was old Mine owner, In Gadar he played Pakistani extremist, in Dayawan he was corrupt policemen. He gave outstanding performance in each of these roles.

15. Ashutosh Rana in “Sangharsh”

Ashutosh Rana may be having some kind of degree or PHD in characters of “Serial Killers”. He comes up with even more scarier and evil performance in Sangharsh. This is must watch movie for Ashutosh Rana.

14. Langada Tyagi: Saif Ali Khan in “Omkara”

Saif Ali Khan shed his good boy image and played very bad, evil and foul mouthed Langada Tyagi. Langada Tyagi is best performance of Saif’s career and I think it will be difficult for him to better that performance. “Omkara” is Indian version of Shakespere’s “Othello”. Saif ali khan outoperformed all the other actors in the movie.

13. Sunil Malhotra: Shahrukh Khan in “Darr”

Sunil Malhotra name does not sound like a name of villain isn’t it? Yes he is normal guy in movie almost a Hero who sings song for his love but he turns into villain when he find out his love is one sided. He is more of Hero turns into villain. Shahrukh Khan gave his one of most memorable or for me his best performance in this movie. Shahrukh is one of very few successful Heroes which also gave successful villain as well. He also did evil act in Bazigar and Anjam, Ram Jane. But he made his mark with the all time famous K.k.k.k.k.kkkkk….Kiran

12. Gokul Pandit(Postman): Ashutosh Rana in “Dushman”

The one and only scary postman I ever seen which is played by Ashutosh Rana in Dushman. One of the most evil characters in movies. Ashutosh Rana played a serial killer in the movie and walks over with all the accolades for his performance. He outperformed all the other actors in the movie.

Naseruddin Shah plays a Subedar in “Mirch Masala” who has relentless lust for Smita Patil. And he get punished in the end for that like no other villain in bollywood.

Releasing Date: 3rd April 2009

“Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Bolatoy” was most awaited and anticipated Marathi movie in long, long time. I wanted to watch the first day first show on Friday but I couldn’t as show was houseful till Sunday evening at Movie Time, Goregaon. So it tells that not only but many others were eager to watch the movie. And it was also due to the fact there were only 2 shows per day at Movie Time multiplex. As usual Marathi movies don’t get enough screens as multiplex or theatre owners claim that not many people turn up for Marathi movies. But after looking at this movie and its collection they should get assurance that Marathi movie has their own viewers.

As for the movie it is a must watch movie for not only Marathi people but also for non-Marathi people. As issue of non Marathi verses Marathi is really hot in Maharashtra today. This movie is able to give exact assessment of what Marathi common man is going through and what does he thinks about this issue. There is anger and uneasiness among Marathi people, they are feeling down, they are feeling outcast in their own homeland; but at the same time they understand that they can’t just beat people up and ask them to leave the state. They know this is not the solution but anger is still there and they don’t know what to do with it? This movie tells people what and how to do it through the medium of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

This movie answered many questions for common Marathi man. But also ask many questions which Marathi people were shying away from. As all Marathi people complains that all the business and all the top post are captured by non Marathi people. This question is answered in the movie with another question like who stopped Marathi people doing the same. Movie has bulk of social relevant message for Marathi people. And as it has Chhtrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s character in it, people automatically get inspirations, motivations.

Movie has lot of resemblance to “Lage raho Munnabhai”. As protagonist of this movie is using Shivaji Maharaj’s ideology instead of Mahatma Gandhi’s to get away through his troubled life. But it also has its own Marathi Tadka. Although it is not a cinematically genius movie it is still a must watch movie. There are many reasons for it first would be that it is highly entertaining as well as inspiring movie. But most important reason will be performance of Sachin Khedekar. He is outstanding in this movie. If anyone wants to know what is acting watch this movie this is what acting is all about. Lot of actors claim to be a perfectionist, but watch the performance of Sachin Khedekar as ‘Dinkar Bhosale’ and find out what actually perfection is. He shows that just saying your given lines while facing the camera or only showing some emotions on face is not acting. Acting also involves body language. He has tremendous sense of delivering dialogues that has to make impact on people.

All the other actors also did their job very well but Sachin Khedekar outsmarts them in many ways. Mahesh Manjarkar was very good but he could have been far better, it may be because I grown watching actors like Suryakant, Chandrkant as Shivaji Maharaj in many movies. And anyone else does not look proper fit now. Suchitra bandekar and priya bapat did great job; Siddharth Jadhav was in pure villain’s role first time. But what happens with him is that you keep anticipating that he might do some comic act any time. Makarand Anaraspure is able to create magic in his very small role.

I will suggest everyone must watch this movie at least once. If I have to rate this movie I will give 8 out of 10.
