Movie Review “Jogawa”

Genre: Drama

Presenter: IDream Productions Pvt. Ltd.

Language: Marathi

Star Cast: Upendra Limaye, Mukta Barve, Vinay Aapate, Amita Khopkar, Kishor Kadam, Sharvari and others

Although we all are moving towards globalization rapidly every day, thanks to various means of communications. There are still many villages in India which performs rituals come out of superstitions regularly. “Jogawa” is a movie which enlightens one such ritual or superstition which is still going on in villages. The movie is directed by Rajiv Patil who’s earlier films “Savarkhed Ek Gaon” and “Sanai Chaughade” appreciated by people. But this time he comes up with much more hard hitting story. It is a story of people who called as “Jogatin” and “Jogata” who m their family given up on the name of goddess to serve her. But the society treats them inhumanly and looks at them as mere sex objects.

The story happens in village where there is strong influence of Goddess ‘Yelamma’. And this influence is used by some people for their own cause on people who believe in these superstitions. Like the central characters of the movie Tayappa (played by Upendra Limaye) and Suli (played by Mukta Barve). When Suli’s mother found knots while combing her she was suggested she should be made ‘Jogatin’, and serve the goddess. Same with Tayappa when his father (played by Vinay Aapte) found out that Tayappa passing blood while urinating. He forced him to be a Jogata. Now he has to act like woman, ware cloths like woman and serve the goddess.

Both of them enjoyed the new environment for sometime but soon the society try to exploit them. They find solace in each other’s company and found love. And this is unthinkable and impermissible for any ‘Jogata’ and ‘Jogatin’. So the story is how they fight against the superstition and find their way.

The movie already won many National Awards. We can see some brilliant performance in the movie. Upendra Limaye, Mukta Barve were brilliant so was all the actors. Rajiv Patil comes up with his best work yet. Technically the movie is 10 0n 10. Good cinematography and good music by Ajay – Atul which enhance the movie experience and made it more believable.

If I have to rate this movie I will give it 9 out of 10.

"PAA"

Movie Review “Paa”

Genre: Drama

Director: R. Balki

Producer: A. B. Corp.

Language: Hindi

Star Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Arundhati Naag, Paresh Rawal and others.

Music: Illaiyraja

“Paa” is a story of Auro played by Amitabh Bachchan. He is a 12 year progeria infected kid. These kids body grows 7 time older than their actual age. That means they do not live beyond 13-14 years. Auro is living with his mother Vidya played by Vidya Balan who is gynecologist and his grandmother played by Arundhati Naag. Auro calls her bum. Now Auro is very popular at school and fun loving kid. Once he wins an award in his school which was presented to him from a young politician, Amol Arte played by Abhishek Bachchan. Now Amol Arte happens to be Auro’s father; but both of them unaware of it. During vidya’s studding days abroad, she was in a relationship with Amol Arte. But when she got pregnant Amol suggest abortion as he did not want to spoil his political ambition. But Vidya decides to keep the child and dump Amol. Over the years Vidya kept a secret from Auro about who his father is. But when Auro reaches final stages of his life she reveals to him that Amol Arte is his father. And then rest of the movie is all about how Auro get his parents back together.

Paa is a heart touching movie. It is a family entertainment and kids going to love it. There is some excellent cinematic work involved in this film. First and foremost what should be mentioned are make-up artists who transformed Amitabh Bachchan into Auro. Then Amitabh Bachchan again comes up with amazing acting performance. Then the kid who played Auro’s best friend Vishnu was simply brilliant. All the scenes involving him are highly entertaining. Way to go for this kid. Vidya Balan, Abhishek Bachchan and Arundhati Naag gave justice to their respective roles. But I felt Paresh Rawal was wasted.

If I have to rate this movie I will give it 8 out of 10. And it is a Must Watch Movies for all Amitabh Bachchan’s Fans.

Natrang

Movie Review “Natrang”

Genre: Drama

Director: Ravi Jadhav

Producer: Zee Talkies

Language: Marathi

Star Cast: Atul Kulkarni, Sonali Kulkarni, Kishor Kadam, Vibhavari Deshpande, Sunil Deo, Priya Berde, Kishor Choughule and others

Music: Ajay - Atul

Lyrics: Guru Thakur

Release Date:- 01/01/2010.

“Natrang” is a movies based on book written by Anand Yadav. It is a story of farm worker and wrestler Guna played by Atul Kulkarni. He is fond of ‘Tamasha’, not just fond of but passionate about it. He thinks it is not just a medium of entertainment but an art. So when there are some troubles getting farm works, he and his friends decides to start their own Tamasha group. But then he has defied by family and community for doing so. But movie is about how he resist everyone’s opposition and build up the group. But real trouble comes when they need a ‘Nacha’ in there troupe. When no one was ready he decides to be one himself. He loses his well built body and learns behaving like woman. And troubles come after that and how he overcomes them is what ‘Natrang’ is.

“Natrang” is sure shot Must Watch Movie for everyone. There are many reasons for that. First and foremost is stupendous performance by Atul Kulkarni. He made tremendous efforts for this character Guna and made him unbelievably real person. He first builds up amazing body to look like wrestler and then shed down all of it to look like ‘Nacha’. That’s really commendable. Performances by Sonali Kulkarni and Kishor Kadam were excellent. Sonali look ravishingly beautiful all the time. But pinnacle of the movie is its music. Hats off to Ajay-Atul, once again they proved they are A.R. Rahman of Marathi film industry. Great job by director Ravi Jadhav.

There are hardly any loose ends in the movie, everything is perfectly bound. Only thing I feel should have been different is ending. As I would have like to see more elaborate success story in the end rather than just giving it last 10-15 minutes.

If I have to rate this movie I will give it 9 out of 10. In case you still to watch this movie, don’t miss it.

3 IDIOTS

Movie Review “3 Idiots”

Genre: Comedy, social, drama

Director: Rajkumara Hirani

Language: Hindi

Star Cast: Aamir Khan, R. Madhvan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani, Omi Vaidya, Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh, Javed Jafry and Others

“3 Idiots” had high expectation even before it release for many reasons. To list few, the movie was supposedly based on Chetan Bhagat’s popular book “Five Point Someone”. It was next release of Aamir Khan after ‘Ghajini’ which was we all know was block buster hit. Then it was next project of Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra after “Munnbhai Series….” Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor paired with each other first time. Movie has excellent ensemble cast.

Sometimes this big hype before movie release cause downfall of many movies. But “3 Idiots” fulfilled all the expectation beyond imagination. “3 Idiots” is ingenious acting performances, direction, and script. Once again Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra comes up with highly entertaining movie with social message.

Movie criticizes Indian education system and Indian students learning style. Today in India knowledge is secondary to numbers or marks. Movie tells us to learn the books acquire knowledge, experiment with it, and try new things rather than just mugging up or following path laid by others. Make your own way, live life on your own terms.

Although the movie has superstar like Aamir Khan, other actors like newcomer Omi Vaidya and Boman Irani stand out. All of us surely going to love these 3 idiots immensely and going to remember not only Rancho (played by Aamir Khan) but also Chatur (Played by Omi Vaidya) and Prof. Sahastrabuddhe (Played by Boman Irani) for long long time. I can see producers of this movie making sequel of “3 Idiots”.

If I have to rate this movie I will give it 9 out of 10.

Nishani Dawa Angatha

Movie Review “Nishani Dawa Angatha”

Genre: Comedy

Director: Purushottam Vrede

Language: Marathi

Star Cast: Ashok Saraf, Dilip Prabhawalkar, Makarand Anaraspure, Nirmiti Sawant, Mohan Agashe, Vinay Aapate

Special Appearance: Bharat Jadhav, Sanjay Narvekar

“Nishani Dawa Angatha” is a film based on a novel of same name. Author of this book is Ramesh Ingale. As per Marathi film industries ritual this film is a comical farce on very serious issue. This film talks about why there are so many illiterate people in rural areas although Indian Government runs so many literacy programs over the years. And which had been very successful on papers. “Nishani Dawa Angatha” shows the loopholes in such government programs.

The story happens in a village name ‘Savargaon’ in Buldhana district in Maharashtra. In the village there is a school run by six male and six female teachers. Principle of school is played by Ashok Saraf. One day principle received a letter from government announcing that adult literacy program is started and all the teachers are expected to do extra duty for the same i.e. they will have to work after their normal working hours and teach illiterate adults at nights 8 to 10 pm. Although everyone is irritated with this, they had to do this as it is governments order.

But as it happens in any government work, people start find loopholes to miss the work. Everyone involved in the program right from teachers, supervisors, officers tries to save their skin. They run this program for three years and without creating anyone literate, the village bags the award for the excellent work in literacy program. That is what movie is all about.

The movie got excellent storyline. But there is much more scope of improvement in screenplay, and direction of movie. Director Purushottam Berde tried to be true to the novel all along but little bit of cinematic liberty could have added charm to the movie. All the actors were brilliant. If I have to rate this movie I will give it 7 out of 10. But it is still a must watch movie and highly entertaining too.
